User-centric Solutions

Strategy

The aim of introducing any third-party tools, such as User Pilot and the Floorplan, should be to create a more seamless user journey. Applying the same user-centric mindset from the main Event Platform to these third-party integrations will ensure a consistent and reliable experience.

  2. Setting up the Floorplan
  3. Ongoing Considerations

1. General Best Practice

Maintaining accessibility standards is still essential when working with third-party integrations. Make sure to check whether your User Pilot button or your Floorplan icons meet accessibility requirements.

2. Setting up the Floorplan

The Floorplan tool is particularly important for supporting users’ wayfinding experience at events. Setting this up in the most effective way is essential to making this tool more helpful for users.

2.1 Distinct Location Names

Events span multiple buildings with many hospitality locations for relaxation and meeting opportunities. Having distinct names for these locations will add further clarity for users and allow the blue dot feature to work more effectively.

Don’t use the same name for different hospitality locations.

3. Ongoing Considerations

The points below highlight issues that may have a negative impact on the user experience but may require further discussion with third-party providers to address. Make sure to test any third-party integrations ahead of launching to users so that any problems can be addressed with the provider in good time.

3.1 User Pilot Button Positioning

The User Pilot integration supports the onboarding flow for users. A key issue is the positioning of the button on the desktop view which often covers other buttons beneath, making them inaccessible.

💡 Recommendation

The ‘Get Started’ feature should be removed for the at event and post-event phases as the focus is no longer onboarding onto the Event Platform.

3.2 Missing Floorplan Legend

Floorplans use different colours and icons to highlight different points of interest but these may not be obvious to users without a legend or key.

3.3 Limited Floorplan Location Information

Selecting a location on the Floorplan provides limited information for users to make decisions. Adding details like catering options for hospitality locations or industry information for exhibitor booths can enhance matchmaking and the event experience.

3.4 Overlapping Labels

Clear labelling is essential when users zoom into the Floorplan, as overlapping text can obstruct navigation and reduce its effectiveness.
